Job Description:
Mitigation Specialists work with defense attorney’s representing indigent clients throughout North Carolina. The cases many times involve individuals incarcerated for first degree murder and at times involve the potential for the death penalty. This opportunity is excellent for anyone involved in the social work field with a comprehensive knowledge of psychology, diagnosis and behavior. The mitigator is the Steven Spielberg of the team, compiling and creating a narrative of the client’s life.
A mitigation team gathers information (records, interviews), organizes, and synthesizes the information down into bite size pieces for our attorneys and/or forensic psychologists and creates a generational narrative that tells the story of the individual’s life. Mitigation specialists investigate the context of a person’s life and tell their story. These stories are many times difficult ones with trauma, abuse, poverty, and desperation. A thorough knowledge of psychology is critical.
