The Opportunity The Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU) is part of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (HHS) and provides public health services to the North West Hospital and Health Service. This position is located in our Mount Isa office.
Role requirements
- Identified Role Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
- Travel will be required due to the geographical scope of the position, including stays of up to two weeks in remote Indigenous communities. This may include travel in light aircraft or boat. A corporate vehicle is available on a booking on priority needs basis.
- Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
- Competent level or ability to acquire, of knowledge, expertise and skill of the policy framework for improving Indigenous health outcomes and environmental health legislation and standards.
- Knowledge of the factors predisposing poor environments in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the associated disease risks, as well as the strategies to address them.
- Well-developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and to communicate effectively and work in partnership with external organisations and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to plan, prepare and deliver programs in line with Public Health priorities to set timeframes and goals. Function as an effective member of a multi disciplinary team demonstrating ability to function effectively with a minimum of supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti- discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
Generous remuneration package value up to $87,657 p.a. comprising:
- Salary range of $2634.80 to $2944.80 p.f. (AO3)
- Annual leave with 17.5% loading
- Up to 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
